Seven members of the same family lost their lives in a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 27th, 2025, along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway in Lwengo District, according to Police Traffic spokesperson Michael Kananura.
The accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. at Njagalakasayi and involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.
Kananura said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Fielder, who was travelling from the Masaka side, attempted to overtake a queue of vehicles and collided head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck.
“All seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder died on the spot,” Kananura said, adding that the deceased include a man, his wife, their four children, and the man’s brother.
He urged motorists to avoid reckless overtaking, especially at night when visibility is poor, and advised drivers to limit night travel where possible and ensure they are well-rested to prevent fatigue-related crashes.
