Seven incumbent LCIII chairpersons in Kabale District have failed to retain their seats following sub-county elections. Among those defeated is Northern Division LCIII Chairperson Isaac Mucunguzi Rushoga (Independent), who polled 1,017 votes, losing to NRM’s Patrick Tushabomwe, who garnered 2,613 votes. Justus God Is Money Arineitwe (Independent) came third with 32 votes.

In Buhara Sub-county, journalist Francis Niwaha of NRM was declared the winner after securing 4,373 votes, defeating the incumbent chairperson, Joseph Baryamunura (Independent), who obtained 3,354 votes. Rodgers Bisigwaho (Independent) came third with 132 votes. In Rubaya Sub-county, incumbent LCIII Chairperson Nelson Atukwase of NRM lost after polling 1,223 votes. He was defeated by Independent candidate Noah Mubangizi, who received 1,607 votes.

The Butanda Sub-county LCIII Chairperson, Champion Edward Bannet of NRM, also lost after obtaining 1,971 votes, losing to Independent candidate Happiness Turyomurugyenda, who garnered 2,203 votes. Another Independent candidate, Emmanuel Barijunaki, received 22 votes. In Kyanamira Sub-county, Bright Buhamizo Karangizi of NRM defeated the incumbent LCIII Chairperson, Deusdedet Kamugisha, after polling 3,300 votes against Kamugisha’s 2,633 votes. Independent candidate Benon Nshekanabo garnered 181 votes.

The incumbent Kamuganguzi Sub-county LCIII Chairperson, Elias Twesigomwe (Independent), also lost after receiving 2,781 votes, while his only challenger, Nicholas Ntegyerize of NRM, secured 3,641 votes. Meanwhile, Henry Nasasira of NRM was declared Central Division LCIII chairperson-elect after garnering 2,025 votes. He was followed by Leopold Twesigye of PFF with 1,260 votes, while Derrick Katebire of NUP polled 94 votes.

Those who retained their seats include Southern Division LCIII Chairperson Macklean Kamusiime Batware (Independent), who garnered 2,980 votes, defeating NRM’s Arthur Asiimwe, who polled 974 votes. Namara Sacho Samuelison Kahindi (Independent) received 321 votes. The Katuna Town Council mayoral seat was won by NRM candidate Nzeirwe Elvis Byoonanebye, who polled 1,672 votes, defeating Independent candidate Mathias Tubihemukama, who garnered 1,268 votes.

Lyakarimira Town Council Chairperson Enock Kazoba of NRM was also re-elected after obtaining 2,144 votes, while Independent candidate Jackson Mpeirirwe received 1,725 votes. In Kitumba Sub-county, LCIII Chairperson David Muhereza (Independent) lost after polling 2,610 votes, while NRM’s Herbert Twinamatsiko, who garnered 2,468 votes, was declared the winner. 

In Kibuga Sub-county, LCIII Chairperson Vanansio Kamugisha of NRM was also declared the winner after defeating Independent candidate Fluegence Byaruhanga. Three incumbent LCIII chairpersons, all NRM candidates, were elected unopposed. These include Edmond Tumwesigye of Kaharo Sub-county, Onesmus Mutungi of Maziba Sub-county, and John Kabengye of Kahungye Sub-county.
