Thomas Tayebwa and Anita Among during one of the Parliament seetings

A section of members in the NRM Parliamentary Caucus have expressed their interest in having Anita Among as the new Speaker of Parliament and the current Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa her deputy come Friday.

According to sources that preferred anonymity, the caucus is most likely going to present the two names for consideration when they meet on Thursday.
Speaking to NBS TV on Tuesday morning, Solomon Silwany (Bukooli County Central MP) expressed that Among and Tayebwa have had a good working relationship and are the most preferred candidates to further unity and continuity of the party.

Indeed, Anita Among has expressed interest in the position of the Speaker while Thomas Tayebwa who was initially expected to take up the speaker position has withdrawn from it.
According to the same sources, the political barometer is reading that Among will be the speaker and she will be deputised by Tayebwa.

Tayebwa has not declined from the position of Deputy Speaker, however, sources closer to him indicate that he will wait until Among is elevated before he will officially express his interest to be deputy.
