The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested the Town Clerk of Kapchorwa Municipal Council, the Municipal Engineer, and two other staff over alleged shoddy road works and embezzlement of public funds. Those arrested include Tony Ogwang, the Town Clerk, and Bod Cherop, the Municipal Engineer.

Fredmark Chesang, Sipi Region Police Spokesperson, said the four officials were picked up between Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, while several others believed to be involved remain at large. The suspects are currently detained at Kapchorwa Central Police Station as investigations continue.

The arrests followed complaints from local leaders in West Division, who recently raised concerns to President Yoweri Museveni about the deteriorating road network in Kapchorwa Municipality. Acting on the complaints, the President directed the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to take action and conduct an audit.

A staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that the implicated officers siphoned more than 400 million shillings, part of which was meant for fuel, and used substandard murram, further worsening the already poor road conditions in the municipality.

Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the State House Anti-Corruption Unit expands its probe.
