The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has on Thursday sent off a group of talented young footballers from St. Mary’s Kitende and St. Noah Girls School as they embarked on a journey to represent Uganda at the prestigious CAF African Schools Football Championship 2025 in Ghana.

The event, a significant milestone for Ugandan sports, underscores the nation’s growing commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting sports as a platform for youth development.

In a heartfelt statement shared on her social media platforms, Speaker Among expressed her pride in the young athletes, describing them as “exceptionally talented boys and girls” poised to showcase Uganda’s football prowess on the continental stage.

The team, drawn from two of Uganda’s renowned schools for sports excellence, is expected to compete fiercely against other African nations in the championship, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Speaker extended her gratitude to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), led by President Hon. Eng. Moses Magogo, for their tireless efforts in promoting sports and fostering young talent across the country.

FUFA’s initiatives, including grassroots programs and school-based competitions, have been instrumental in identifying and nurturing the next generation of Ugandan football stars.

“I commend FUFA for their ongoing efforts to promote sports and nurture young talent across the country,” Among stated.

Speaker Among also took the opportunity to laud His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his steadfast commitment to sports development in Uganda.

She highlighted the President’s support for improving sports infrastructure, which she described as a critical factor in unlocking and enhancing the potential of the nation’s youth.

Investments in facilities such as stadiums, training grounds, and school sports programs have created an enabling environment for young athletes to thrive.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship, a relatively new initiative by CAF, aims to promote football at the grassroots level while fostering education and life skills among young players.

Uganda’s participation in the 2025 edition marks another step in the country’s growing influence in African football.

The championship in Ghana will provide a platform for the young athletes from St. Mary’s Kitende and St. Noah Girls School to gain international exposure, compete at a high level, and inspire their peers back home.

As the team departed for Ghana, Speaker Among wished them success, urging them to carry Uganda’s flag with pride.

“Go and make Uganda proud!” she wrote, encapsulating the nation’s high hopes for the young footballers.

The send-off ceremony, attended by school representatives, FUFA officials, and supporters, was a moment of celebration and anticipation.

For the students of St. Mary’s Kitende and St. Noah Girls School, this opportunity represents not only a chance to compete but also a testament to the power of sports in shaping Uganda’s future leaders.

As Uganda continues to invest in its youth and sports infrastructure, the nation looks forward to seeing its young stars shine on the African stage, bringing home not just victories but also invaluable experiences that will shape their future.
