The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) working side by side with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) under Operation Shujaa on Saturday rescued 23 people who has been abducted by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.
According to Maj Bilal Katamba, the Mountain Division/ Operation Shujja Spokesperson, the joint forces engaged with the ADF near River Malibongo in Ituri Province leading to the rescue of the abductees.
The rescued abductees who comprise 16 females, 7 males and 13 minors were received at the UPDF tactical headquarters in Luna, Ituri Province.
Maj Katamba revealed that among the minors are three infants under the age of one who are severely malnourished and are receiving emergency care.
On Monday, UPDF handed over 22 Congolese nationals who had been abducted by ADf to the Congo government. These had been taken through rehabilitation and skilled to create income generating activities to help them survive.
