The Minister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda has called for protection of rights of prisoners as they serve their sentences.
This was contained in her message delivered by the Head of Political Mobilisation in the Office of the President, Eng Joseph Ssewava at the end of year prayers organised by the Bishop of Masaka diocese, Serverino Jjumba in Butenga Prison, Bukomansimbi District.

She said as prison authorities treat inmates with love and care, the communities too ought to welcome them and integrate them back after their sentences.
Babalanda noted that prisons are not a death sentence but a place people to reform and transform into more useful citizens in the communities.
Bukomansimbi District Woman MP, Veronica Nanyondo, used the event to castigate individuals in the Prison Services who torture and mistreat inmates. In response, Eng Ssewava said that those who do so will be personally liable and subjected to the law noting that the NRM government does not condone such beastly acts.

In her conclusive remarks, the Minister promised to pay a courtesy call to the Bishop in the immediate future.
Bishop Jjumba applauded Minister Babalanda for being kind and committed in her duties, saying she is one of most hardworking and patriotic leaders Uganda is currently endowed with.
In attendance was the Deputy RDC Bukomansimbi District, Pax Kalema, local and central government leaders among others.
