Police in Sebei sub-region Kapchorwa district, Eastern Uganda has arrested Juliet Chelangat a peasant of Waror village, Tegeres sub county for the alleged murder of her husband Namawangula Stephen.

According to Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, Stephen aged 40years removed Chelangat’s cash savings from where she had kept it and spent it all on alcohol which later caused a quarrel after failing to refund it.

Chelangat aged 43 had withdrawn this money from Kabati village savings group on October 4 to pay school fees for their children.

“On October 8, Stephen removed the 200,000 shs savings and spent it all on alcohol, he promised to pay it back the next day but he failed, at around 11pm that night, this couple developed a quarrel which led to a fight where the suspect pushed her husband to the ground and later died on being rushed to Kapchorwa hospital,” Enanga explained.

Enanga, who was speaking to Journalists at Police headquarters on Monday, further noted that this incident shows the dangers in homes currently where there is no respect and mutual understandings between couples.

“We continue to advise spouses or partners in toxic relationships to seek help from the Police Child and Family Protection unit, before its too late and life threatening,” he advised.

In this briefing, Police also noted that it has gotten in touch with the relatives of Irama Mercy for proper burial arrangements after being shot dead by L/CPL Ruhuriza Michael.

Ruhuriza Michael of Lopetageit detach under the 49 battalion shot dead Irama Mercy of 20years whom he was cohabiting with for the last 5 months over theft of his cash of 150,000 shs which was part of his loan obtained from the Wazalendo SACCO.

Currently, Ruhuriza is on the run after abandoning his gun with 109 bullets a distance of about 120 metres from the crime scene.
