Police in Apac District is holding in custody a 40 year woman to aid investigation into the suspected poisoning of 70-ya old boyfriend.
Molly Ayugu, a 40-year-old resident of Owang Cell, Owang Ward, Arocha Division in Apac Municipality is being accused of having a hand in the sudden death of Alex Alyanga, a 70-year-old resident of the same area.
It is alleged that the deceased had been in a relationship with the suspect for over one year following the death of her husband. However, on January 1, 2026 the suspect reportedly went to the home of the deceased in the company of two other women carrying alcohol. They allegedly drank together before each returned to their respective homes. Later that night at about 11.00pm, the suspect is said to have returned alone to the home of the deceased, as had reportedly been her routine, and spent the night there before leaving at around 06 00am.
At approximately 0600/C, Agoa Winny, a daughter of the deceased, woke up and carried out her usual morning chores before attempting to wake her father, who did not respond. She alerted her cousin, Geoffrey Otim who was also at the home. Upon opening the house, they found Alyanga Alex lying unresponsive and later confirmed dead.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, Police Relation Officer for North Kyoga Region said a case of sudden death is registered at Apac Central Police Station and confirmed having the suspect in police custody.
Okema said the body of the deceased was retrieved and conveyed to Apac Main Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination.
“Preliminary observations indicate that the deceased and the suspect had been in a long-term intimate relationship and that the suspect was reportedly the last known person seen with the deceased alive.
Blood was observed coming from the mouth and nose of the deceased, raising suspicion of possible poisoning, pending medical confirmation. Investigations into the exact cause of death are ongoing, and further action will depend on the findings of the postmortem examination and other inquiries, according to police.
