The Police in West Nile have warned the residents of Yumbe district against acts of Religious Extremism.

The warning was issued during a meeting chaired by the Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Joseph Mwesige, at Takwa Mosque on Friday.

The meeting was held in connection with the recent clashes caused by some youth who caused havoc, purportedly protesting about the sale of por in Yumbe. The incident has been described as part of the issue of religious extremism within the Yumbe community.

Mwesige Joseph emphasized that Islam stands for unity, peace, and development, and should never be associated with violence or destruction.

He called on the community members to distinguish between the true teachings of Islam and criminal acts committed in its name.

Mwesige urged parties within the region and district to promote dialogue and understanding, rather than inciting youth or community unrest.

He stated that the police in the region remain open to dialogue and collaboration to foster peace and stability.

Meanwhile, according to some sources that attended the security meeting, some key resolutions passed at the district security meeting included the need for continued police patrols in Yumbe Town and the surrounding areas, Yumbe district. It was further resolved that a report should be compiled, and support should be sought for the affected persons.

It was reportedly agreed that the suspects arrested should be vetted and the innocent ones released, and the culprits detained.

They suggested that a Radio talk show be used to pass out the resolutions by the Interreligious Council and Masses to be educated on the right use of Social media. It was noted that a lot of lies and misinformation were bee relayed through TikTok, and the district leadership of Yumbe was asked to give people timely information to avoid speculations.

Collins Asea, the Police Spokesperson for North West Nile, said the meeting also noted that those responsible for criminal activities on November 4, 2025, will face the full extent of the law.
