Police in Arua City have arrested a 16-year-old girl for allegedly dumping her baby in a pit latrine.

It is alleged that the girl who is a resident of Ewanyapa cell in Komite ward, Ayivu West Division, Arua City, dumped the two weeks old baby in the pit latrine on Wednesday.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Police Spokesperson said that the Police received information from residents and when they rushed to the scene, they found the baby had been removed from the pit latrine and died moments later. 

The suspect is currently detained at Arua Central police station.

Stephen Buga, the LCI Chairperson of Ewanyapa cell in Komite ward, Ayivu West Division, Arua City said that one of the residents visited the latrine in the morning to answer nature’s call and saw the baby inside the pit latrine.

“We got this information in the morning when one of the residents had gone to the latrine and found the baby had been dumped in the latrine”, Buga said.

In January, police in Arua District arrested Janet Drateru, a resident of Yivu West Village in Vurra sub-county for allegedly dumping her newborn baby in a pit latrine.
