Police in Nakapiripirit district are investigating circumstances under which a 21-year-old woman committed suicide.
Hellen Nachap was found hanging on a tree behind the mother’s house in Lokwasinyon village in Kawach Sub County.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, Nachap requested 3,000 Shillings from her brother Isaac Mungan. Mungan gave her a 10,000 shillings note expecting a balance of 7,000 shillings.
However, Nachap went into hiding until Wednesday when Mungan traced her and asked for the balance. But Nachap had already used and this resulted in a quarrel.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said that Nachap was discovered dead by the residents after quarreling with her brother.
Longole noted that when the brother realized the sister was dead, he also attempted to commit suicide prompting the local community to arrest him.
“We assure the public that Mungan is in our custody to help in further investigations and a team of investigators are organizing to visit and re-examine the scene. However, we advise the public to desist from tampering with the actual scene of the crime” Longole.
Longole applauded the community members for the cooperation they exhibited by arresting and handing over the suspect to the Police.
