Police say five people have died on spot and an unidentified number injured in a motor accident at Buloba along Kampala-Mityana road.

The accident occurred at Jenina in Buloba at around 8pm on Saturday, according to Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police spokesperson.

She says Police’s preliminary findings indicate that motor vehicle registration number UAX628S Scania loaded with parked water from Kampala side heading to Mityana, had a tyre Burst and lost control and rammed into five motor vehicles, UBE613E Toyota Hiace, UAR 175W Isuzu Elf, UAX783F Mitsubishi Pajero and UFL 384D Bajaj Boxer, killing five people on spot.

Among the dead, two were passengers from motor vehicle reg no UAV 515J, other two from UBE 613E Toyota Hiace and the fifth was the Bodaboda rider.

Unidentified number of victims have been rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical help.

She says inquiries into the matter are underway and more details will be availed in due course.

According to the 2022 annual police crime report, there was a 35 percent increase in common traffic offences registered country wide. In 2021, 336,722 traffic cases were registered while 456,993 cases were recorded in 2022.
