A total of 590 non-commissioned officers (NCOs), including 125 women, have graduated from the Hima Army Training School in Kasese District after completing an intensive five-month junior leadership training programme.
The training is intended to equip junior leaders with the skills required to command soldiers and strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). Presiding over the pass-out ceremony on behalf of the Deputy Commander Land Force, the Commander of the 2 Infantry Division, Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, said junior leaders play a critical role in protecting Uganda’s sovereignty and maintaining discipline within the force.
He noted that the Hima Army Training School was established to produce disciplined personnel capable of commanding soldiers effectively and urged the graduates to remain professional and disciplined throughout their service. The Commandant of Hima Army Training School, Col. Martin Nahurira, said the rigorous programme equips graduates with essential skills in law, administration and self-defence.
He cautioned the graduates against HIV/AIDS, reminding them that the disease remains incurable and could destroy both their careers and aspirations.Nahurira also urged the graduates to maintain high standards of discipline and conduct, noting that their behaviour would directly affect the image and reputation of the UPDF.
The newly graduated non-commissioned officers are expected to be deployed to various UPDF units across the country to strengthen leadership at the lower command levels. URN
