Leopold Twesigye, the former Central Division councillor in Kabale, has won UGX 12,869,800 in compensation from Kabale District Local Government and Northern Division councillor Verah Tuyizere Tumuheki.

The High Court in Kabale ruled in his favor after Twesigye challenged Tumuheki’s election to the Kabale University Council.Twesigye filed the petition in July 2022, arguing that District Speaker Flavia Nyinakiza Kanagizi unlawfully cast a vote and submitted Tumuheki’s name to the council, a role he said should belong to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

His challenge prompted the Attorney General’s Office to order a fresh election, in which Tumuheki was re-elected.The court dismissed Twesigye’s petition but awarded him partial compensation for legal costs.

He initially sought UGX 28,589,800, but the court reduced the payment to UGX 12,869,800, as certified by Assistant Registrar Kenneth Tumwebaze on March 24, 2026.

Twesigye accepted the reduced amount, saying it would cover his legal expenses and would not affect his political future.

He lost the Central Division LC3 Chairperson race to NRM candidate Henry Nasasira, while Tumuheki did not contest again, having joined Kanungu District Local Government. URN
