African ambassadors accredited to Uganda convened for their monthly meeting hosted by Ethiopia’s envoy, H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, at the Ethiopian Embassy in Kampala.

The gathering brought together diplomats from across the continent to coordinate joint activities and strengthen cooperation within the African diplomatic corps.

The meeting opened with remarks from the dean of the group, H E Joseph Rutabana, who emphasized unity and collaboration among African missions. The host ambassador followed with her address, welcoming colleagues and outlining the agenda.

A key focus of the session was preparation for Africa Day 2026, with members agreeing on a roadmap for commemorating the occasion in Uganda.

Africa Day is marked every year on May 25 to celebrate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963 in Addis Ababa.

The day recognizes the continent’s progress in unity, liberation, and development, and it has since evolved under the African Union as a moment to reflect on shared goals and challenges.

During the Kampala meeting, diplomats also received updates from various countries and welcomed newly arrived ambassadors, reinforcing ties within the diplomatic community.

Discussions highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and collective engagement in promoting Africa’s image and interests.

The meeting ended on a celebratory note, with participants experiencing Ethiopian hospitality through traditional cuisine and a full coffee ceremony. The envoys later cut a cake in honor of their continued cooperation before posing for a group photo to mark the occasion.
