Lt Gen Michael Flynn, a decorated American military veteran and scholar, met today with the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.

Gen Kainerugaba welcomed the visiting veteran and gave an overview of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF) history, emphasizing its pan-African character and role in regional peacekeeping.

“Uganda’s military has always played a pivotal role not just in national security but in fostering peace and stability across Africa,” he said.

Lt Gen Flynn commended the UPDF’s leadership, noting the link between stability and national development.

“Uganda’s progress is anchored on strong, visionary military leadership. With continued peace and sound strategy, this nation is well-positioned to achieve its developmental goals,” he said.

Lt Gen Flynn brings more than 33 years of experience in the U.S. Army, including Joint and Special Operations Forces, with multiple overseas combat tours.

He served as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and as National Security Advisor to the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

He is also the author of seven books, holds three master’s degrees and an honorary doctorate, and chairs America’s Future, one of the nation’s oldest non-profits.

The meeting was attended by UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba and Col Allan Matsiko, Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security in charge of Defence Engagements and International Affairs.
