A 45-year-old man has died in a mine in Chepktakol village, Amudat District.

John Olumureng, a resident of Chepkararat village in Lokales Sub County died on Tuesday when the stone that was hanging on top of the rock fell and hit him on the head while mining gold.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said that all efforts were made to rescue Olumureng, but all in vain. He added that the deceased succumbed to injuries because he had no protective gear for mining.

Longole noted that the team of police visited the scene of the crime and established that the deceased had been working in a risky mining area.

This is not the first time such incidents have happened in Gold mining sites.

In 2022, five people were buried alive in a gold pit at Chepuwar mining site in Lokales sub-county Amudat district. The five miners got trapped in the gold pit when they just entered to start digging the gold.
