Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Kiiza Besigye, on Sunday survived arrest in Jinja City.

Besigye and Mukaku Lubega of the Red Card Movement had made a stopover for refreshments at Igar Café and Petrol Station in Jinja City when Police immediately surrounded the car and ordered them to return to Kampala.

Besigye moved out of his vehicle and entered the cafe and accessed Kyabazinga road, where he jumped on a motorcycle, which was seen heading towards Iganga.

Police later blocked Besigye’s vehicle registration number; UBA 695R, and arrested all the occupants who included, Lubega, Ketra Komugisha, Ronald Muhinda, and the driver, Fred Kato. The vehicle was later towed to Nalufenya Police Station and his aides were detained at the police station.

Prior to the face-off with police, Mukaku told journalists that, they were heading to Soroti to mobilize support for the FDC party candidate in the Soroti East by-election, Moses Attan Okia.

Lubega accused the police of interfering in their activities.
