President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has promoted Brigadier General Christopher Ddamulira to the rank of Major General.
Without delving into details, Ddamulira confirmed the development to Plus News on Monday morning. “Yes it is true, the elevation came through last night,” he said.
This authoritative news website understands that the promotion was communicated by the Commander-in-Chief in a presidential message on Sunday June 22, 2025.
His promotion could be in recognition of his outstanding contributions to national security and innovative leadership in combating crime.
Maj Gen Ddamulira, who serves as the Director of Crime Intelligence in the Uganda Police Force, has been lauded for his strategic approach to tackling hardcore crimes while simultaneously empowering marginalized communities, particularly ghetto youth, for socio-economic development.
His tenure as head of the Crime Intelligence Division has been marked by significant achievements in dismantling criminal syndicates across Uganda.
Ddamulira’s intelligence-driven operations have led to the arrest of key figures involved in organized crime, including robbery, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
By leveraging advanced surveillance techniques and inter-agency collaboration, Ddamulira has strengthened the police’s capacity to preempt and neutralize threats.
One of his most notable contributions is his innovative “double strategy,” which combines aggressive crime-fighting with community engagement.
Recognizing that socio-economic challenges often fuel criminal activity, Ddamulira initiated programs to organize ghetto youth into productive enterprises.
These initiatives, including vocational training and cooperative businesses, have provided alternatives to crime, transforming lives in urban slums and reducing recidivism rates.
“His approach is calculative and holistic,” said Yasin Katende, a commentator for The Inspector. “Ddamulira’s efforts have not only curbed crime but also given hope to communities that were once hotspots for lawlessness.”
Beyond his role in the police, Maj Gen Ddamulira’s military background has enriched his contributions to Uganda’s security architecture.
As a seasoned UPDF officer, he has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between military and police operations, fostering synergy in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts.
His work has been instrumental in thwarting threats from groups like the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), ensuring stability in both urban and border regions.
Ddamulira’s leadership extends to mentoring young officers, instilling discipline, and promoting professionalism within the forces.
