Leaders in the Bukedi sub-region have praised President Museveni for his efforts in combating youth unemployment through skills training.

They attribute the success of the Presidential Zonal Industrial Hub initiative to the acquisition of skills that enable youths to participate in the money economy.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 477 students held at the Bukedi Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Lwatama sub-county, Kibuku district, the Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs, Jennifer Kacha Namuyangu, emphasized the significance of establishing zonal industrial hubs to address poverty exacerbated by unemployment.

Minister Namuyangu highlighted the President’s vision of establishing industrial hubs in each region to equip young people aged 18 to 35 with employable vocational skills.

She commended President Museveni for targeting communities in Bukedi facing challenges of poverty, urging beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to improve their lives.

The graduates, trained in disciplines such as Bakery & Confectionery, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Leather Processing (Shoe Making), Tailoring and Designing, Hairdressing and Makeup, Building and Construction Practice, and Carpentry & Joinery, received Uganda Vocational Qualifications Level One Certificates, equivalent to the Uganda Certificate of Education level and internationally recognized.

Minister Namuyangu also highlighted the President’s support through initiatives like Emyooga, aimed at providing financial assistance to skilled individuals. She urged district leaders to prioritize skilled youths when allocating funds to ensure effective utilization of resources.

Under the program, State House plans to establish a common user facility where beneficiaries can work collectively, promoting collaboration and economic growth. The initiative aims to create job creators, reduce unemployment, curb criminality, and enhance household incomes.

The success of the Bukedi Zonal Industrial Hub was attributed to the high standards set by the management and the quality of training provided. The State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, commended the hub’s achievements and assured further support from the President.

In their testimonies, graduates expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the positive impact on their lives and communities. They urged fellow youths to take advantage of such initiatives to secure a better future.

The ceremony, attended by various stakeholders, demonstrated the commitment to empowering youths and promoting economic development in the region.
