CDF Meets Ethiopian Ambassador, Praises Strong Uganda–Ethiopia TiesThe Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commended the strong and enduring relationship between Uganda and Ethiopia during a high-level meeting with Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda at the Special Forces Command Headquarters on Monday.
Ambassador Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu was accompanied by a delegation that included Mr. Robel Admassu, Head of Political Affairs; Colonel Yirga Gebremariam, Defence Attaché; and Colonel Tesfaye Guta, Deputy Defence Attaché.
Gen Kainerugaba, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, welcomed the ambassador and recalled previous engagements, including the 2024 visit to Uganda by Ethiopia’s Chief of the General Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula.
He noted that continued engagements between the two countries reflect a deep and lasting bond, emphasizing that relations between Kampala and Addis Ababa go beyond modern political agreements.
He described the partnership as rooted in shared cultural heritage and common Nile Basin values, which provide a firm foundation for ongoing cooperation.In her remarks, Ambassador Yimenu thanked the CDF for the warm reception and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet him again.She also congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his recent reelection and conveyed Ethiopia’s optimism for stronger ties in the coming years.
The ambassador reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and acknowledged Gen Kainerugaba’s role in promoting cordial and brotherly ties between the two nations.
The meeting also addressed regional security and other areas of mutual interest, underscoring the broad and strategic partnership between Uganda and Ethiopia.
