Commissioners of the the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are split on the results of the presidential elections moments ahead of their announcement.

Four of the seven IEBC Commissioners led by IEBC Vice Chairperson, Juliana Cherera, said because of the opaque nature of the process, they do not take ownership of the results.

They made the announcement from the Nairobi Serena Hotel shortly after storming out of the Bomas of Kenya which is serving as the commission’s national tallying center.

“The four of us are here not at Bomas of Kenya because of the opaque nature of how this process has been handled. We therefore cannot take ownership of the results that is going to be announced,” Cherera said.

“We will give details of this opaque nature very soon,” she added.

They however noted that they have an open door that people can go to court and because of the same, they urged Kenyans to be peaceful because the rule of the law is going to prevail.
