The Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a successful operation on Tuesday afternoon at Elite Arcade on Nasser Road, shop A-08.

This operation led to the arrest of eight suspects involved in the distribution, production, and sale of counterfeit money, according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP deputy spokesperson.

Among those arrested were the principal dealer, Mukasa Ronald, along with his accomplices: Mugumya Geey, Brian Abaho, Joel Kagame, Ogadi Ronald, Namuwaya Shadia, Segwayi Rodgers, and Abu Mayanja.

“During the operation, the team recovered counterfeit money in various currencies, including Ugandan Shillings, South Sudanese Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, Rwandan Francs, United Kingdom Pounds, and Kuwaiti Dinars,” Owoyesigyire stated.

In addition to the counterfeit currency, the authorities seized materials used in the production of counterfeit money. These included films, papers with images, chemicals, CPUs, monitors, digital printers, and suspected forged land titles and academic documents.

Owoyesigyire emphasized that the police are committed to combating counterfeit operations and ensuring the integrity of the financial system. He added that the suspects will be charged with dealing in counterfeits and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The Annual Police Crime Report of 2023 indicated that the police registered 12,924 economic and corruption crimes, with KMP South recording the highest number of these crimes.
