The High Court in Fort Portal has pushed the hearing of a murder case in which three men are accused of killing former Bundibugyo NRM Registrar Robert Aguma Kifunda.

The case came up for mention before Justice Vincent Wagona on Monday, but the judge pushed it to the next criminal session, whose date is yet to be communicated.

Justice Wagona explained that the matter is still new and will require sufficient time for hearing, which the court currently does not have, as the current criminal session is almost ending and the High Court is also preparing to handle election petition cases arising from the recently concluded elections. The accused, Swaibu Sunday Bwambale, Abdul Kayanja, and Hasan Babakari were further remanded to Katojo Government Prison pending the fixing of a new hearing date.

The trio is facing charges of murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the death of Aguma, who was allegedly killed after being robbed of 42 million shillings in March 2022.According to police investigations, Aguma was on March 25, 2022, escorted to Centenary Bank in Fort Portal by one of the accused, Swaibu Sunday Bwambale, using motor vehicle registration number UBL 885F. The deceased reportedly withdrew 42 million shillings before the two travelled to Bundibugyo.

Investigators say Bwambale had allegedly alerted his accomplices in Bundibugyo, who later lured the deceased into a fake gold transaction.Police further allege that upon arriving in Bundibugyo at around 8 PM, the suspects attacked and strangled Aguma before sharing the money among themselves.

His body was later dumped in a stream at Bimala Cell in Kanyansimbi Ward, Bundibugyo Town Council. URN
