Residents of Bata sub-county in Dokolo District received counsel on Tuesday, urging them to carefully choose their enterprises to maximize gains from the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

During a gathering at Atabu Primary School, Bata sub-county, Mr. Owiny Alfred Thopacu, the Special Presidential Assistant on Political Affairs, emphasized the importance of selecting the right enterprises to fully leverage the benefits of the PDM program. The meeting brought together over 635 PDM program beneficiaries to evaluate its progress.

Bata sub-county comprises six parishes: Atabu, Barlela, Ocero, Alapata, Bardege, and Apenyo, with 71 PDM SACCOs operating across these parishes.

Mr. Owiny encouraged residents to embrace the PDM initiative, highlighting its attractive interest rate of 10%, payable only after a grace period of two years. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the repayment schedule, underlining that the refunded money goes back to the Parish bank in the form of a SACCO, benefiting other community members.

Dokolo Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ms. Barbara Akech, underscored the rigorous monitoring of the PDM program to prevent past mistakes. She emphasized the importance of transparent discussions among beneficiaries to improve enterprise selection and utilization of funds.

Addressing previous challenges, Ms. Akech acknowledged instances where funds were misallocated by PDM SACCO chairpersons. However, she assured that all misused funds were recovered, totaling approximately 15 million shillings. She vowed to prevent such occurrences in future PDM phases.

Ms. Akech urged residents to recognize the government’s efforts, particularly President Museveni’s initiatives, and reciprocate by actively engaging in programs like PDM aimed at enhancing community welfare.

Expressing gratitude, Atabu village LC1 Chairperson, Mr. Okwara Geoffrey, commended President Museveni for introducing the PDM program, which has positively transformed their livelihoods.

The meeting, attended by representatives from the Dokolo district local government and senior security officials, provided a platform for constructive dialogue on the PDM program’s progress and future endeavors.
