Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker of parliament, has emphasized the importance of encouraging Christians to work hard while also seeking God’s guidance.
Tayebwa stressed that while prayer is essential, it should be complemented by diligent efforts, as solely relying on prayer may hinder progress, even in endeavors like building a cathedral.
During his address at the ground breaking ceremony of Saints Andrew and Philip Cathedral in Mukono district on Sunday, Tayebwa expressed concern over churches solely advocating prayer without emphasizing the value of hard work.
He urged the Anglican church to prioritize investments in education alongside constructing grand churches, stating, “Build big churches, but build bigger schools. Larger educational institutions will produce individuals capable of contributing to the growth of even grander churches.”
Tayebwa further commended the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, for fostering unity among religious leaders and acknowledged the church’s role in facilitating access to education, particularly citing Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
“Mukono is now recognized as a center of excellence. I recently visited the university, and I am truly impressed by its beauty and cleanliness. I extend my gratitude to you all,” he remarked.
Archbishop Kazimba urged Christians to support the construction of a new church house for Saints Andrew and Philip Cathedral, highlighting the historical significance of the project and its role in nurturing past and future leaders of the Church of Uganda.
Kazimba called upon the community to contribute towards the cathedral’s construction, emphasizing its importance as a collective endeavor for the benefit of all.
He also appreciated Tayebwa’s unwavering support for religious activities and fundraising efforts, citing his contributions to the renovation of Namirembe Cathedral.
“He is a true supporter of the church, always willing to assist in various fundraising initiatives. His recent support for the interior renovation of Namirembe cathedral is greatly appreciated,” Mugalu stated.
