Residents of Ajali Trading Centre in Iwal parish, Atongtidi Sub County in Kwania district are excited following the construction of a solar-powered mini-piped water scheme project.
The 400 million Shillings project founded by Lifeline International was executed by Akvo International Quality Water and Energy Solutions for three months.
The piped water project will have 32 cubic meter water reservoir tanks and will serve a population of more than 2,000 people according to Daniel Eberu, the Lira branch Manager of Akvo International Quality Water and Energy Solutions.
Anna Kali and Flavia Anyinge, both residents of Atongtidi Sub County say that they have been trekking over 2 kilometers to access water from a stream where they share with animals.
Alex Ongora, Kwania District Water Officer says that the district plans to extend piped water projects to Nambieso Sub County, Chawente, and Abongomola Sub County to provide safe water and basic sanitation to the rural communities.
Patrick Onyum Okwang, Atongtidi Sub County LCIII Chairman hailed Lifeline International for saving his residents from an acute water crisis.
Kwania District LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Alex Ogwal Adyebo warned the residents against vandalizing the project.
