The Police in Kikuube are holding five suspected robbers.

The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Katerega, Brian Atuheire, David Mbazira, Benon Sekimpi and Gerald Safari.

The robbers reportedly raided and robbed shillings 30 million from Moreen Tungu, a mobile money agent at gunpoint.

The incident happened on Tuesday night at around 10:30 p.m. at Kikonda trading center, Bubogo parish of Kabwoya sub county in Kikuube district.

According to Tungu, the robbers first disguised as clients who had come to transact mobile money business with her but later put her at gunpoint and ordered her to surrender to them all the monies she had in her possession. They threatened to end her life should she sound an alarm.

Fearing for her dear life, Tungu picked a bag that was containing the money and handed it over to them. The thugs later fled to an unknown destination.

However, Tungu managed to identify some of the suspects. She later rushed to the police and reported the matter.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says police swiftly swung into action and dispatched a team of flying squad operatives in the area. He says, they managed to arrest the five suspected robbers and whisked them to Kikuube central police station where they are currently being detained on charges of aggravated robbery.

Hakiza has stated that the suspects are cooperating well with police adding that once investigations are through, they will be arraigned before court to be charged accordingly. He however said the gun used in the robbery is yet to be recovered.

He has warned mobile money agents operating in the region to be extra vigilant while transacting businesses especially during this festive season saying they are being targeted by thugs.
