Four people were killed in three days in the Kigezi region. The first incident occurred on December 1, 2023, at around 08:00 PM at Rugyendabare village, Rutaka parish Nyundo sub county Kisoro district when 35-year-old Baker Uwimana Radisi alias Byirimana was shot dead by Police Constable Wilson Bazimaziki over aggravated robbery.
It is alleged that Uwimana while armed with a club stormed the shop of Stephen Komuhangi and started beating him while demanding money. He was chased by locals. He, however, returned later grabbed the victim again, and started strangling him. Komuhangi raised an alarm that attracted locals including Bazimaziki who was guarding at Chameleon Hotel located about 300 meters away from the crime scene.
Bazimaziki and residents attempted to arrest Uwimana, but he turned rowdy, picked up a machete, and attempted to hack them. Bazimaziki opened fire and shot him in the leg. He was rushed to Kisoro Hospital but died on the way. The case is registered at Kisoro police station under file number GEF 32/2023. On the same date around 19-year-old Robert Musinguzi, a resident of Kagashe village, Bugangari parish, Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district was found dead.
Musinguzi was last seen in Frank Kamusiime’s bar located in the Bugangari trading center a day before. His body was found lying a few meters from the bar in a pool of blood and with visible bruises leading to suspicion that he could have been killed. The case is registered at Rukungiri police station under file number CRB 1475/2023.
On December 3, 2023, 52-year-old Francis Sezibera, a resident of Mataba village, Soko parish, Muramba sub-county, Kisoro District was found dead and his naked body lying in a sorghum garden. The body was found with multiple wounds and strangulation marks on the neck. His pair of trousers and other clothes were lying by his side. The body was taken to Muramba Health Centre III for postmortem.
The case is registered at Kisoro police station under file number CRB 856/2023. On December 3, 2023, 27-year-old Felix Mugisha, a resident of Kabaraga village, Kaharo parish, Kaharo sub-county in Kabale district was found dead and his body dumped in the compound of Denis Aharimpisya. Mugisha had a day before at around 10:00 PM while at Bannet’s bar developed a quarrel with his friend Deus Monday that resulted in a fight.
The case is registered at Kabale Police Station under file number SD: 03/03/12/2023. Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region confirms the incidents, saying that investigations are ongoing. Maate however says that no arrests have been made so far.
