The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has donated 2,025 footballs to 135 primary schools in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasana–Luwero.

The donation, valued at over 20 million shillings, aims to boost talent development among pupils and strengthen grassroots football.

Rev. Fr. Boniface Muzira, the Kasana–Luwero Diocesan Religious Advisor, said the diocese partnered with FUFA to promote the development of the game from the grassroots.

He notes that while many schools in the diocese have playgrounds, they lack essential sports equipment. He says that in their holistic formation, sports play a crucial role.

According to Fr. Muzira, the lack of equipment, such as footballs, prompted them to petition FUFA for support, and they are grateful for FUFA] positive response.

He adds that with this support, schools will now be able to dedicate structured time for sports every term. Fr. Muzira confirmed receipt of the footballs from FUFA representatives.

Samalie Namukasa Kafeero, the Luwero District Sports Officer, says the donation is a major boost for games teachers across Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts. She describes it as a remarkable step in strengthening sports departments in the region.

Namukasa emphasized the need to nurture young talent and thanked FUFA for providing additional training to the games masters who collected the footballs. She notes that during the holidays, pupils will participate in academies enhanced by this donation.

She says that they have been further trained in how to improve their coaching back home so they can inspire children to love soccer even more.
