The football fraternity in Uganda has in the ending year witnessed various successes that all flash a strong foundation and bedrock for a flourishing game of football in the near future.

Some of these include the progress in the construction of the Kadiba facility. The establishment of the $4.4m project meant to house a stadium, training centre among other facilities, started in April 2018. The first phase of the facility was completed, however, the second which was also still on course was affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

This year, the reconstruction and expansion of FUFA headquarters, was completed to provide a proper working environment for the staff.

In its pursuit of expanding the network in sponsorship, FUFA this in September managed to bring Nivana Packaged Drinking Water on board as the Official Water partner to FUFA. The company will offer Shs500 million to the football governing body in three years.

The body has been able to organise resumption of all football competitions after nearly two years of restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This also saw Uganda successfully host the 2021 CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in Buikwe District. They Ugandan team lost to Ethiopia in the final game in November.

The Uganda U20 women’s football national team is still going strong in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers. The girls will entertain Ghana in the fourth round after eliminating South Africa this month.

In March this year, Uganda’s U20 men’s national football team, for the first time reached finals of the Uganda in the final of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in the Mauritanian Capital Nouakchott.

It should also be noted that all Uganda’s national teams including those of Women and youths have honoured their international matches without fail.

FUFA had also improved the FUFA technical centre and it has been able to hosts international competitions. Currently, it is hosting the ongoing Masaza Cup games.

Other remarkeable achievements this year include the appointment of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic as the Uganda Cranes Coach and also the clearance of FUFA by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to resume CAF coaching courses.

It is likely that the FUFA President will highlight these and more other achievements in the ending year.
