The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a political movement led by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is set to stage a demonstration tomorrow, Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM outside the German Embassy in Kampala.

The protest targets German Ambassador Matthias Schauer, whom the PLU accuses of engaging in “undiplomatic conduct” and interfering in Uganda’s internal affairs.

“The demonstration is on tomorrow,” PLU Secretary General, David Kabanda, told Plus News on Thursday.

In his statement on Monday, Kabanda said the demonstration was rescheduled from an earlier date due to the passing of a PLU Central Committee member, Cedric Ndilima.

“To all our patriotic supporters, the intended demonstration against the German Ambassador, which was postponed due to the loss of our comrade, will take place on Friday, 13th June, 2025, at 10 AM at the German Embassy,” Kabanda announced via X.

The PLU’s grievances stem from reports that Ambassador Schauer raised concerns about General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni and Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, during a meeting with senior Ugandan officials.

Schauer criticized General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s social media posts targeting Western envoys during a meeting with EU diplomats and President Museveni’s brother.

PLU deems the actions by the Germany envoy as an overreach of diplomatic boundaries given that they could breach the 1961 Vienna Convention, which prohibits diplomats from meddling in host nations’ internal affairs.

Tomorrow’s protest follows a pattern of PLU-led demonstrations against perceived foreign interference. In recent months, the group has organized similar actions against Uganda’s Parliament and the Kenyan High Commission, accusing foreign missions of undermining Muhoozi’s growing political movement.

The PLU, which has gained traction for its nationalist rhetoric, views these actions as a defense of Uganda’s sovereignty.

Tensions between Uganda and Germany escalated last month when Uganda’s military announced it was severing ties with Germany, citing Schauer’s alleged “subversive activities.”

General Muhoozi himself publicly stated that the military had issues with Schauer “as a person,” further fueling the controversy.

Germany has since rejected these accusations, emphasizing that bilateral relations, valued at $335 million in trade in 2024, are built on “stability and trust.”

The planned protest has raised concerns about potential confrontations, given the PLU’s history of assertive demonstrations.

Authorities have not yet commented on security arrangements for the event, but police are expected to maintain a strong presence around the embassy to prevent unrest. The German Embassy too, has not issued a public response to the planned protest.
