Christopher Okello Onyum, the prime suspect in the Ggaba daycare killings, has been committed to the High Court to stand trial on four counts of murder.
Onyum is accused of killing four toddlers, Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Sseruyange Ignitius, and Odeke Ryan, at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre on April 2, 2026.
The children, aged between one year and two-and-a-half years, were enrolled at a facility run by Ggaba Community Church that supports vulnerable and malnourished infants.
According to committal papers filed by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the attack was premeditated.
Prosecutors say Onyum bought knives days in advance, rented a vehicle, and visited the daycare posing as a parent seeking admission, allowing him to survey the premises.
On the day of the attack, he reportedly paid one hundred and eighty thousand shillings in school fees via mobile money shortly before launching a knife attack on children playing in the compound.
He is said to have targeted the victims systematically and threatened a caretaker who tried to intervene.
The suspect was subdued by staff and members of the public before police arrived.
Authorities recovered a bloodstained knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with two others found in his possession.
Postmortem reports show the children died from shock due to deep neck wounds. Investigators also collected key evidence, including CCTV footage, DNA samples, mobile phones, and transaction records linking the suspect to the scene.
Prosecutors further state that Onyum had no diagnosed mental illness, but allegedly believed in wealth through human sacrifice, pointing to a possible motive of ritual enrichment.
The case now awaits hearing before the High Court, following committal by Makindye Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera. URN
