Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in partnership with Youth Go Green will be hosting the 5th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Run at Kololo ceremonial grounds on October 29.
This annual event that is dedicated to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 7, “Affordable and Clean Energy,” is expected to attract notable faces and participants in various fields, including academic, political, and civil society networks.
Edwin Muhumuza the Lead Coordinator of the SDG RUN noted that this event will inspire more individuals to undertake actionable steps in advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Uganda and the world at large.
“The significance of the event goes beyond raising awareness, as the proceeds will be allocated to the installation of a solar power system at the Buliisa Health Centre IV, located in Buliisa district. A nominal fee of 20,000 shillings is required to reserve a kit for participants, with students exempted from payment,” he noted.
Since the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at creating a more equitable world, Uganda has been working on achieving these objectives by prioritizing young people’s engagement in the process.
With the theme of this year being “Run for Energy Access,” organizers are looking to draw interest from various sectors ranging from the UN system to the private sector, academia, among other groups.
Being one of the significantly anticipated events that further the implementation of sustainable development goals, Organizers have also expressed enthusiasm in the event’s upcoming prospect, acknowledging the role that each participant plays in ensuring a sustainable future.
This SDG run that is expected to be flagged off by the Vice President Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, is expected to portray remarkable leadership in areas such as climate action, gender equality, education, and support for refugees.
The SDG Run, which began in 2017, has also been leading efforts aimed at fulfilling the UN’s sustainable development goals.
