NTV reporter, Edward Muhumuza on Monday Saturday died in a car accident along Entebbe Expressway.

“NTV is saddened to announce the passing of our journalist, Edward Muhumuza, in a car accident. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace,” NTV said in a tweet.

The aaccident occured at around 8am at Mpala opposite Mpala Road Toll along Kampala-Entebbe express highway involving motor vehicle reg No. UBG 323S (Passo) that was being driven by a one Muhumuza Edward, aged 32 years.

Traffic Police spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, confirmed the accident, saying the crash could have been caused by speeding.

“It’s alleged he lost control of his vehicle and went off the a
road, knocked sign post and overturned several times, killing him on spot,” ASP Nampiima said on Saturday.

“The cause of the accident has been attributed to over speeding. However, more Inquiries are still at hand,” she added.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been conveyed to City Mortuary for postmortem examination.

According to Priscilla, his friend, the deceased on Friday night traveled in a company car from Bunyoro where he was on official duties.

“I last talked to him at 10pm,” Priscilla says.

At the time of his death, Muhumuza is reported to have been on his way to Nkumba University for lectures. He has been pursuing a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Last year while commenting on a tweet by his colleague Sudhir Byaruhanga who was rooting for careful driving on roads, Muhumuza said: “Sometimes it’s not about how careful we are on the road. We just can’t avoid it. We gotta be prepared even if it’s to die.”

In December, he won an award for the best Land and Property Reporting in Uganda National Journalism Awards.

According to the 2022 annual police crime report, there was a 35 percent increase in common traffic offences registered country wide. In 2021, 336,722 traffic cases were registered while 456,993 cases were recorded in 2022.
