The police in Masindi are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at Masindi Port Guest House.

The deceased has been identified as Pastori Balyarugabu, 55, a resident of Kawempe in Kampala. His lifeless body was found lying in the guesthouse bathroom on Sunday morning.

Information gathered reveals that Balyarugabu traveled to Masindi on Saturday evening to supply his clients with water, driving a vehicle with registration number UBP Fuso, which was loaded with boxes of mineral water.

He reportedly booked a room at Masindi Port Guest House and checked in around 7 p.m. The guesthouse management became suspicious when he failed to wake up on Sunday morning.

Everlyne Asaba, the manager of Masindi Port Guest House, told URN in an interview that they were compelled to check on their guest, only to find him lying dead in the bathroom. Asaba immediately alerted the police, who commenced investigations into the matter.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that police rushed to the crime scene and transported the body to Masindi General Hospital, where it is currently awaiting a postmortem.

Hakiza also mentioned that the hotel manager has already recorded a statement with the police, and arrangements are ongoing to contact the deceased’s family.

In April 2022, an Indian national was found dead in a guest house in Kikuube district. The deceased, identified as Mike Sultan, 40, a resident of Hoima city, was found lying in his room at Kasonga Guest House in Kasonga village, Kasonga parish, Kangwali sub-county on a Tuesday morning.

Preliminary information indicated that Sultan traveled to Kyangwali sub-county to supply his clients with various items, including soap, cooking oil, sugar, biscuits, and salt. He checked in at the guest house around 6:30 p.m. after supplying the merchandise.

The guesthouse management became suspicious when he failed to wake up and, upon checking, found him lying dead on his bed.
