The Kasese District Disaster Management Committee-DDMC has expressed concern over the ongoing fuel shortage that is severely impacting emergency response efforts in the region.
The district, known for being hard to reach, now faces additional challenges in responding to natural disasters and transporting critically ill patients.
Joseph Singoma, the Kasese District Senior Planner and Disaster Focal Person, stated that the fuel crisis could hinder their ability to respond promptly to emergencies. “Transporting patients who require urgent referral to higher-level health facilities is becoming increasingly difficult due to lack of fuel,” Singoma explained.
Singoma called on the government to prioritize ambulances and disaster response vehicles, suggesting that these vehicles should benefit from subsidized or cheaper fuel to ensure timely assistance during emergencies.
The committee warns that if the fuel shortage persists, it could have dire consequences for disaster management and emergency medical services in Kasese and other affected districts.
