Police in Kiryandongo are hunting for unidentified assailants behind the brutal murder of a 45-year-old man before dumping his lifeless body in a maize plantation.

The deceased has been identified as George Kyakulagira, a resident of Kitongozi village in Kibeka parish in Kiryandongo district.

It is alleged that the assailants raided the deceased’s home on Sunday night at an unknown time and hacked him severally on the head, face, and neck before dumping his lifeless body on a maize plantation.

Kennedy Basirima, the Kitingozi LC I Chairperson said in an interview on Tuesday morning that the deceased’s children went to check on him on Monday after waiting for him to wake up in vain.

They were shocked to find bloodstains near his door but when they opened it, their father was nowhere to be seen.

He says area residents joined the family members and mounted a search for the deceased whose body they found in a maize plantation in the same village.

They alerted the police that rushed and picked up the body that was conveyed to Kiryandongo general hospital.

Beatrice Nyangoma, another resident says it is still uncertain why the assailants targeted the deceased.

“This is unbelievable and we want the police to investigate and find out what could be the motive of these assailants who killed our village mate,” said Nyangoma.

Christopher Uthuba, another resident says that they are living in fear following the brutal murder of their village mate.

“He was a humble, loyal, and respected person in our village who had no misunderstanding with anybody. This is uncalled for and we want the police to expedite investigations so that the culprits are arrested and charged accordingly,” said Uthuba.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, says that investigations have already commenced as well as the hunt for the assailants.

He has appealed to the public to cooperate with security by providing vital information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
