Ismail Mushemeza, the Kitagwenda District LC V Chairperson, is in police custody over allegations of extorting money from job seekers in the district.

Mushemeza, who had reportedly been on the run since July, was arrested on Wednesday in Kampala by officers from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU).

Marian Natasha, the SHACU spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and said preparations are underway to present Mushemeza before court.

The arrest follows accusations that Mushemeza solicited payments from individuals seeking employment in the district, with victims allegedly paying between 10 and 20 million shillings each.

Earlier this year, Mushemeza contested in the NRM primaries in an attempt to retain his position but lost to Efrance Kenyonyozi.
