Bushenyi district Police have in custody the chairperson LC 2 Kahungye parish chairperson and another person on allegations of fraud and extorting money from parish development model beneficiaries
The suspects are Hamson Magoma the chairperson and Lauben Nimwesiga.
Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson says they have recorded statements from Julius Muhanguzi, Grace Kobugabe, and Private Nahweera all of Kakanju sub county, noting that they were registered as PDM funds beneficiaries in 2022 yet they have never received the said money todate.
Tayebwa adds that they are also investigating 6 cases of alleged extortion from beneficiaries ranging between 16,000 shillings to 120,000 shillings from Arther Byaruhanga, Beneath Natukunda, Esther Atuheire, Denavence Twikirize, and Evelyn Mirembe all residents of Bushenyi.
He Alleges that the said victims were conditioned to first pay the said range of money Magoma and Nimwesiga in order to be given the 1M shillings each.
He says the arrested Magoma and Nimwesiga are assisting Police with investigations.
Emmy Ngabirano the Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner says the arrests are just starting since the president directed investigations in the PDM program while campaigning in Bushenyi at the start of this month.
Ngabirano, says Bushenyi has visible fruits of the program and that they won’t let anyone fail it.
While campaigning in Bushenyi district on the 2nd of December president Museveni warned all parish development model officials against stealing from the beneficiaries of the program.
He said he would decisively deal with those that will fail to heed to his warning asking Bushenyi authorities to start investigation.
Bushenyi has received, 25.9 billion shillings for the 2025/2026 financial year to benefit over 20,000 households.
