Local Government Minister, Raphael Magyezi, has directed Kabale Municipal authorities to investigate the allegations against the prominent businessman, Simon Mashemererwa for encroaching upon, diverting, and constructing within a public road.
The disputed area in question is situated along Corryndon Road, which connects to the Kabale-Katuna roundabout and Makanga Hill. Mashemererwa is presently involved in the construction of commercial properties on this land. According to Magyezi, his office received complaints from whistleblowers accusing Mashemererwa of encroaching upon and diverting the road to pave the way for his developments.
In response to these allegations, Minister Magyezi has instructed Kabale municipal authorities, under the leadership of the Town Clerk and Planner, to conduct a thorough investigation into the building plan and ascertain whether it has the necessary approvals from relevant authorities.
Mashemererwa, in his defense, maintains that he is following proper guidelines for developing his land. He cites a recent victory in a civil high court case that marked the culmination of a ten-year legal battle with Kabale Municipality. He suggests that the whistleblowers may be influenced by certain political leaders driven by personal animosity towards him.
