Yumbe Central police station is holding a 31-year-old man accused of defiling his one-year- and nine months old niece. The suspect is Hamid, a resident of Leinga Central Cell, Lomiriji Ward, Barakala Town Council in Yumbe District.

According to Kalisumu Cheka, a resident, the incident occurred on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m. while she was away fetching water.

Upon returning home, she found the minor bleeding from her private parts, which prompted her to alert other residents and the Local Council 1 chairperson, who reported the matter to the police. “The suspect attempted to run, which made me sound an alarm,” Cheka said.

Collins Asea, the North West Nile Region police spokesperson, in a statement, confirmed the arrest, noting that a case of aggravated defilement has been registered at Barakala Police Station under SD Reference 08/16/11/2025.

“The suspect has been arrested and is in custody,” Asea said in a statement on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. According to Asea, a medical examination confirmed that the minor sustained multiple injuries to her private parts.

The 2024 annual crime report indicates that a total of 4,072 cases of Aggravated Defilement were reported to the Police compared to 3,846 cases reported in 2023, representing a 5.7% increase in cases of aggravated defilement.
