Police in Kaliro are holding a 50-year-old man, his wife, and his sister-in-law in connection with the alleged robbery and murder of a businesswoman, identified as Betty Tusingwire, in Kaliro earlier this month.

On the fateful day of October 2, 2024, at around 9:00 p.m., Tusingwire was attacked by unknown assailants after arriving home with her husband. The attackers fled the scene after robbing the couple of 3 million shillings.

According to Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North spokesperson, the suspects were arrested in coordination with the Flying Squad. They were apprehended in Iganga and initially detained at Buliigo Police Post before being transferred to CPS Kaliro, where they are currently being held.

The suspects have been identified as Nfambi Robert, a resident of Nampirika; Kadondi Suzan alias Byogero, a resident of Bugabwe; and Nakanda Damalie, a resident of Kasokoso Central.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the rifle used in their criminal activities was purchased from Kenya by Nfambi’s brother, identified as Kapere alias Brown of Bulubandi, along with an associate named Saidi.

Kasadha further explained that Nfambi had acted as the driver on each mission, while his wife, Kadondi, had been responsible for hiding the rifle. She revealed that the firearm had been moved to her sister’s residence following their arrest.

During a search at the sister’s house, the authorities recovered the rifle, an AK-47 with serial number 564812008, along with 16 rounds of ammunition.

This led to the sister’s arrest as well. In an interview, Nfambi disclosed that their group had been involved in robberies in Iganga Municipality, Namungalwe Town Council, and the recent incident in Kaliro Town Council.

A manhunt is underway for additional suspects.

Kasadha urged the public to remain vigilant and alert to any suspicious behaviour in their communities, emphasizing that many criminal activities are often planned within neighborhoods.
