Uganda is now 92nd in latest rankings by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), dropping three spots.

The Cranes moved from the 89th position as of April 6 to 92nd position overall in the world, according to rankings released on Thursday.

Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt currently hold the top five spots in the continent while the world’s top three remains unchanged, with World Cup winners, Argentina staying ahead of France (2nd) and Brazil (3rd).

The rankings follow Uganda’s disappointing performance in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers with a loss to Algeria in their latest game, which dealt a severe blow to their chances of qualifying.

The Uganda Cranes find themselves on the verge of missing out on a consecutive appearance at the prestigious AFCON tournament.

Currently occupying the third position in the standings with four points, they face stiff competition from Tanzania, who hold the second qualifying position with seven points.

Micho, a Serbian coach who previously led Uganda Cranes to the 2017 AFCON after a nearly four-decade absence from the continental championship, was reappointed in 2021 with the aim of addressing the team’s previous shortcomings.

The next FIFA men’s World Rankings will be published on July 20.
