A Police Pathologist, Dr Herbert Baguma has told the General Court Martial that the two police officers who were killed in Mityana District succumbed to deep cuts and gunshot injuries.
Baguma was on Monday testifying in the case in which 19 people are accused of murdering four Police officers in Mityana and Kiboga districts. The accused persons are: Issa Kizito also known as Commander Muto, Stuart Lugendo, Savio Paul alias Kuffa-Teeka, Julius Mulinda alias Julio, Muhammad Nyanzi Makumbi alias Engineer, Godfrey Agodri alias Walker Ramathan and Paul Lyamuremye.
Others are; Alex Bogere, Bob Robert Ssenyonga, John Masembe alias Nasifu, Faizo Miti, Hakim Ssenyonjo, Sylvester Matovu, Derick Kawuma, Tonny Ssekayombya, Sam Sengonzi Lwanga, Tonny Sseguya, Robert Wamala, Joram Gamwosi and Arthur Ndawula.
According to security personnel, the group allegedly belongs to the Uganda National Coalition, a little-known rebel outfit. They are jointly charged with four counts of murder, aggravated robbery, and treachery following the death of police officers Alfred Oketcho and Moses Kigongo, who were attached to Busunju police station in Mityana district.
The attackers also stole their guns and 30 rounds of ammunition. They are also accused of killing Special Police Constable Francis Ddimba and Corporal Francis Nsubuga, who were both attached to Nakasozi police post in Kiboga District.
Baguma told the Court chaired by Brigadier Robert Freeman Mugabe that he was called to do a postmortem on the bodies of the deceased Police officers at Mityana Hospital Mortuary.
According to Baguma, all Kikongo’s clothes were soaked in blood and his neck had deep cuts. He added that some of the bones on the left side of the neck were visible due to wounds and injuries.
Baguma told the court that his findings discovered that the cause of Kigongo’s death was hemorrhagic shock following sharp neck trauma and neurogenic shock following brain laceration.
On Oketcho’s body, Baguma said that there was a bullet entry on his neck and he had many wounds on his body. The court also heard that Oketcho’s joints and skull had sustained multiple fractures and internal bleeding. He said that the cause of his death was hemorrhagic shock due to gunshot injuries.
According to Baguma, he didn’t recover the killer bullet in the course of his postmortem exercise although he saw a part on Oketcho’s body where the bullet had exited.
When the Defense lawyers led by Major Silas Kamanda Mutungi and Captain Simon Nsubuga Busagwa, asked Baguma if his findings revealed who the suspects were, Baguma said he didn’t know the murderers.
The case was adjourned to September 19 for the State to bring more witnesses.
According to the previous witnesses, the police officers died following a false complaint lodged by one of the suspects, Muto.
