Arua City is set to receive a facelift following a partnership agreement with Modern Group of companies. The makeover is expected to among others, involve beautifying and greening Rhino Camp road roundabout, which has become a home for mentally sick persons, remodeling the Arua City Mayor’s Gardens, which extends up to the Central Police Station with Lighting and walkways, plus solar street lights on a four kilometer stretch of Arua-Nebbi road.
It’s estimated that over 200 million shillings will be spent on greening and solar lighting by Modern Group of Companies. Lawrence Alionzi, the Mayor Arua City said the partnership with Modern Group of Companies came after he personally visited the company head offices in Jinja City and requested them to invest in Arua City.
According to Alionzi, the partnership is one of the key actions he has lined up for implementation within his first one hundred days in office as Mayor. Meanwhile Senior Superintendent of Police-SSP Latif Zake the Regional Police Commander West Nile has welcomed the greening and beautification of the Police Gardens, where relatives of suspects and complainants often gather.
SSP Zake says the intervention will help Police provide better security services and also make the public waiting area more enjoyable. Grace Kigenyi, the Public Relations Officer Modern Tiles group of Companies says the partnership with Arua City will enable them have visibility in West Nile and also help them tap business opportunities in the DR Congo, Central African Republic and South Sudan.
Without disclosing the amount that will be invested in the beautification, solar street lighting and greening of three key areas in the City, Kigenyi said the company stands to reap from long term period from this investment. According to the agreement between Arua City and Modern Tiles (Group of) Companies, works are expected to kick off in two weeks’ time.
Due to the expanding business opportunities in Arua City and its strategic location close to two Countries, the new leadership of the City is targeting to attract companies to invest in the region. Modern Group specializes in tiles distilleries, Aluminum, fertilizers and sugar milling. URN
