A 40-year-old woman has been further remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing before the Senior Magistrate’s Court in Mukono on charges of murdering her husband and concealing his body with the alleged help of her children.

Alice Mbolanyi is accused of killing her husband, Charles Kisekka, before allegedly working with her two children to tie his body in a sack and dump it in a pit latrine. She faces charges of murder and being an accessory to the crime.

Mbolanyi was brought to court on Wednesday morning at around 9:30 a.m. under heavy police guard and held briefly in the court cells before being presented before Grade One Magistrate Jacob Okoth Osiro.

However, the case did not proceed as scheduled due to the absence of the state prosecutor.

Senior Grade One Magistrate John Bosco Osiro Oboth subsequently ordered that Mbolanyi be returned to Luzira Prison until April 27, when the matter will come up again for mention and an update on the progress of investigations. She is jointly charged with her 16-year-old daughter, Nakalema Claire, and the daughter’s boyfriend, Lawrence Makumbi, 17.

The two juveniles were not produced in court, a development that angered members of the deceased’s family.Speaking outside the court, Lendivina Nabatanzi, the mother of the deceased, expressed frustration over the delay and demanded swift justice.

The family also questioned Makumbi’s age, insisting he may be older than stated and alleging that he previously worked as a Special Police Constable during the election period.

Lawyer John Kennedy Babumba, who is representing the family in a watching brief, told the court he was dissatisfied with Makumbi being treated as a minor and remanded at Naguru Remand Home.

He said the family would apply for an age reassessment to determine whether the charge sheet should be amended.

In a separate case before the same court, Hussein Dak Taewaiko, also known as Youth Hussain Taewaiko, was further remanded on charges of murdering Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the former Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University in Mukono.

Taewaiko appeared before Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu, who adjourned the case to April 22 for mention after the state prosecutor, Josephine Nanyonga, informed the court that investigations are still ongoing. URN
