President Yoweri Museveni has launched the second phase of the Four-Acre Model campaign in the Bunyoro sub-region, renewing his call to Ugandan households to embrace commercial farming as a proven path out of poverty.
The campaign, which will cover Masindi, Kiryadongo, Hoima and Buliisa districts, seeks to encourage smallholder farmers to adopt intensive and profit-oriented farming practices.
Before addressing a rally, the President toured the farm of model farmers Mr. and Mrs. Robert Balikagira in Kihauguzi village, Kakumiro District, where he commended their efforts as an example of how Ugandans can generate sustainable incomes from limited land.
Museveni reminded farmers that the Four-Acre Model is not a new concept but a vision first outlined in the 1996 NRM Manifesto. The model guides farmers on how to maximize earnings from small plots through a mix of cash crops, food crops, livestock and high-value enterprises.
“I urge everyone to listen carefully to the NRM message,” the President said. “Plan number one is commercial agriculture. From there, we go to manufacturing, services and ICT. These are the pillars that will transform Uganda.”
The Four-Acre Model is part of the government’s wider strategy to accelerate rural development, create jobs, and move the country toward a modern, money-based economy.
