President Yoweri Museveni, alongside First Lady Janet Museveni, has officially launched the “Yoweri” song album by the Uganda National Musicians Federation, led by renowned musician Eddy Kenzo.
The launch took place at a vibrant ceremony in Munyonyo.
Speaking at the event, President Museveni expressed his appreciation to Kenzo and all the musicians for their dedication in finally getting organized under the federation. He highlighted the significance of their efforts in promoting Uganda’s musical heritage.
“Maama Janet and I are happy to see the music the team has produced, especially the incorporation of indigenous rhythms in Runyankore, Gisu, Lusoga, Acholi and other local languages. These styles have the potential to become big hits internationally, much like how African Americans popularised live jazz music,” Museveni said.
He added that the sounds produced are exceptional and present a significant opportunity for Uganda’s music industry, pledging government support to help the artists leverage their talent.
The album “Yoweri” is expected to showcase the rich diversity of Uganda’s musical heritage and boost the country’s presence on the international music scene.
Eddy Kenzo, who leads the Uganda National Musicians Federation, expressed gratitude to the President and First Lady for their encouragement, emphasizing the role of unity among musicians in promoting Uganda’s culture and creativity.
